Early in my career, while working for an oil and gas company in Norway, I was trained to escape a sinking helicopter and find my way out of a smoke-filled burning building — full-scale simulations required for offshore safety certification. That experience shaped how I teach: I believe students learn best by practicing high-stakes skills in low-risk settings before they face them for real.
In my classroom, that means simulations, case discussions, and hands-on exercises over lecture.
I aim to build a classroom grounded in psychological safety, authenticity, and warmth.
Drawing on my engineering background, I push students toward ambiguous, tradeoff-heavy problems rather than single-answer recall.
